German finance minister Schäuble since long wants a coordinated European fiscal and economic policy, a strong supranational federal Europe. Now he sees the Euro crisis as an opportunity: Financial Times: “the crisis shows that we need .. a fiscal union”. From a democratic point of view unacceptable. Critics of the Euro said this will not function without a strong economic political union. The Euro was introduced without those necessary institutional preconditions. Thus the crisis. And now Schäuble, and in Sweden e.g. liberal party leader Björklund, want to use the crisis created as a means to further their political aims. And force an economic/fiscal unions upon people who did not want the Euro in the first place. Not much of democratic thinking there!
